Amazon.com Inc. showed off a mini Echo smart speaker with a 2.5-inch screen, designed to act like a digital nightstand alarm clock, part of a parade of new consumer products from the e-commerce giant.
The company unveiled the new gadget lineup at an event Wednesday at its headquarters in Seattle. Like its fellow Echo products, the mini Spot speaker is voice-activated and includes the Alexa virtual assistant. The device has a color screen that can show information like the time, weather, news and web videos, and comes with a video camera for calling over Alexa. It also can serve as a video intercom.
Amazon said it imagines people placing multiple Echo Spots around their homes. Echo Spot, which will sell for $130, will reach consumers in the U.S. in December, Amazon said. It will be available in Germany and the U.K. next year.
